As part of our topic 'Fantastic Forests' we have been planting hedgerow trees. The trees were sent by the Woodland Trust as part of their free trees for schools and communities project. We have planted dog rose, hawthorn, hazel, crab apple and dogwood trees.

Memory Boxes
The children in Year 1 have had a fantastic and creative half term. They have looked at toys from the past and have compared them to toys today by playing with them and drawing them. They have talked about their memories and have shared photos of themselves as a toddler or a baby. The children have decorated memory boxes using collage to keep their special baby toys and clothes in. This week they have recycled card and boxes to create beautiful photograph frames. Make sure you keep them in a safe place like 'Elfa' so you can share them in the future!

A Visitor From the Past
Year 1 met a special visitor from the past Sir William Petty. He came to teach us all about The Great Fire of London in 1666. The children learned how to start a fire with a flint and stone. They explored how and why the fire spread through London and discovered how the fire eventually was extinguished. The children drew portraits of Sir William, you can see Yahya Ahmed's super drawing below.
